Wanganui Education Board
The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held on Tuesday. Present— Messrs Carson (in tbe chair), Sanson, Bridge, Ross, Baker, Fry, Beckett, and Yorke. Inspector's Reports. — Tbe Board went mto committee to consider the Inspector's reports, and resolutions were adopted calling the attention of certain teachers to shortcomings mentioned by tbe Inspector. Palmerston North. — Messrs Sanson and Fry reported on the proposed site at Palmerston North. The report was adopted. On the motion of Mr Sanson, Mr Fry seconding, it was resolved that the loug section, as shown in the tracing, belonging to Mr Waldegave be purchased, provided always that Campbell street be extended to Featherstone street West. Auditors. — Mr G. S. Bridge moved, according to previous notice, " That Committees be notified that in future the Board will appoint one auditor to audit the accounts of all the Committees in the district, and that in due course Committees will be notified of the name ofthe gentleman to whom their books and accounts are to be forwarded. The motion was put and lost by 6 to 3. Scholarships Examination. — According to previous notice given, Mr Sanson moved, " That the next competition for scholarships, the Inspector be requested to make arrangements for holding a simultaneous examination at three convenient centres, to be hereafter determined by the Board." — Carried. Bunnythorpe. — Resolved to enquire whether teachers' rooms are lined with view of converting them into class rooms. Assistant Clerk's Salary. — Mr Baker moved that tbe salary of the assistant clerk in the secretary's office be increased to .£BS per annnm, to take effect from September Ist, 1889. (The Chairman having retired, Mr Sanson took his place.) The motion was seconded by Mr Beckett and, on being put. carried. Cheltenham. — The application from the Cheltenham Committee for a water tank and test maps was not granted. The Board then adjourned.
