Important Grown Lands Sale

Had the pessimist who is ever ready to decry the colony, and to assert that no good can possibly come out of Nazareth, attended the Crown lands sale held under the auspices of the Waste Lands Board, which commenced last Thursday morning, he would, to use a slang phrase, have received an " eye opener." Nine blocks of Crown lands, amounting in the aggregate to 80,000 acres of land, were thrown open for selection. The lots comprised land at Waitotara — an old battle-field, not far from Wanganui- at Mangakaretu, some fifty miles from , Wanganui ; Otairi, near Hunterville; Otamakapua, above Feilding; Pohangina, near Ashurst (Manawatu Gorge); Mangttho and Puketoi, which is to the east of Pabiatua. The lands referred to have been sub-divided into first and second classes, and are again divided into surveyed and unsurveyed classes.' Totals— Cash, 27; deferred payment, 67 ; and perpetual lease, 469, making a grand total of 563 applicants. The cash results of the sale have not yet been arrived at, but it is believed that the gross capital value will amount to over £40,000. — Times.
