Football Concert

The concert and entertainment held in the Assembly Rooms on Thursdaj' evening in aid of the funds of the local Football Club, was patronised by a good house. An excellent programme was arranged, which was gone through in very creditabls style, the audience manifesting, by hearty applause, and in several instances by encores, that they thoroughly appreciated the efforts of their entertainers. The orening chorus by the footballers "On the Ball" -was well sung and well received. A special feature was the cornet duet played bj' Messrs j Haybittle and Porthonse. During the interval Mr Fowler, on behalf of ! the Club, thanked the audience for their patronage, and intimated that the proceeds of the entertainment would be applied towards meeting the expenses that would be incurred in sending a team to Wairarapa and Wellington. He doubted if the team would be able to go this season, but they would certainly endeavour to the next season following. As the performers were mostly local amateurs, who are already well and favorably known, it is quite unnecessary to say that they all acquitted themselves in their usual good stjle. Messrs Neil and Sanson, of Sandon, who made their first appearance on the Feilding stage, gave much pleasure by their comic duett in character, for which they were recalled. The performance concluded with the farce, " Slocomb's Dorg," which was well acted and kept the audience in roars of laughter. A dance followed the entertainment in which about 50 couples took part, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves..
