PUBLIC HALLS. TO THE EDITOR OF THK STAR. Sir, —At the Primitive Methodist Church anniversary meeting Mr J. C. Thompson, the chairman, remarked on the limited accommodation the building, [ in which we were assembled, afforded for a meeting of that kind. In' this he was qnite right, as the place was uncomfortably fiiled. He went on to say that there was a lack of suitable halls in Feilding for such gatherings, and he hoped the want would soon be supplied, and it would not be his fault if it was not. I would like Mr Thompson to point out where this " lack of suitable halls" comes in. Because, for certain obvious reasons, the Salvation Army officials will no longer let their hall for meetings of that kind, that is no reason why a building already existing, and in every way suitable for such meetings, should not be used, especially when for such objects as that of Monday night it can be hired on liberal terms, with every requirement for a tejj. meeting, in the way of seats, tables, water heating accommodation, &c. If Mr Thompson int.ends building another hall just for tea meetings and such like hs must, as a Borougb Councillor, know that it would have to paj' the required;/ i>3 license. Shrewd man of business as he is, I imagine Mr Thompson will think twice before investing his money in the. erection of a building for which at present there is not even the slightest demand.— l ani, &c. W. Reading, Manager Feilding Assembly Rooms.
