Wanganui Education Board
Monday, July 29th. Present — Messrs Carson (chair), Sansou, Bridge, Baker, Fry, and Notman. Appointments' Committee. —In committee, the following business was transacted : — Marton — Mr Deighton's resignation accepted, Misaes H. Carter and B. Low to be communicated with' as to filling the vacancy ; Feilding—Attendance does not warraut an increase, but an assistant can be ex changed for two pupil teachers ; Oroua — Mr O'Brien asked for a transfer to a better school, and the Board, in agreeing to pay him on an average of 1 9, drew the attention of the local committee to the advisability of supplementing his salary. Scholarships. — It was resolved, That tbe following should receive «cholartihipß as under :■ — Senior : Bernard McCarthy, Wanganui College, £80; Ethel May George, New Plymouth, £80 ; Percy G Jackson, Hawera, £40- Junior: Cl.ude Holdeu, Wangauui, £40 ; James, M. Elnxslte, Waverley, £40; Annie M. Carson, Wanganui, £40; Ethel May Bell. Wanganui, £40- It was also resolved, That Patrick ODea should be offered the remaining £25 of the Senior Scholarship for five quarters, provided he attended the Hawera School, and failing his acceptance of it. the satn® be offered to Annie Silby rWanganui). TausDAY, July, 30th. District Map. — Mr Bridge moved and Mr Sansun seconded the proposal that the maps of the Board's district be brought up to date; and it was also resolved to call for tenders for stationery and printing. _ Auditing Accounts.— Mr Bridge brought up the question of improper items at times iv committee accounts. No doubt the auditors always saw that there were vouchers for the different items, hut he believed there Zere in some cases expenditure on Twinga and prizes &c, which were not .Unwed by the regulations. ment on the existing state skaflairs. —The Eev. Mr Rosa thought the committees had been acting houestly, and the present motion seemed to cast ao imputation <>v some committees. He would prefer notice of motion being given. Mr Bridge accepted, thiß, and notice was given — " That committees be notified that in future the Board will appoint one auditor fo audit the accounts of all the committees in the district, and tkat in due course committees will be notified of the name of the gentleman to whom their books and accounts are to be forwarded." Correspondence. — Mr Fry's report on the Kimbolton and Cheltenham Schools on the quostiou of altering the time in schools was not agreed to. — A request was received from Bunnythorpe for the conversion of teacher's rooms into class rooms. Resolved to ask the Committee for an estimate. — Respecting a residence site at Mangaone, it was resolved to offer the Committee £10, provided they hand over an acre clear of expense to the Board. — Resolved, That the Secretary be instructed to order several, sets of T squares, for distribution to the various schools. — The various offers for school sites at Palmerston North were referred to Messrs Fry and Sauson to inspect and report on. The Board then adjourned.
