STEVENS & GORTON'S STOCK REPORT.
Bulls, July 24. Press of business prevented our sending our usual report last week. Our sale at Awahuri on 16th instant was a great success, large entries of sheep coming forward and all selling, except' one pen, at satisfactory rates, and nearly all under the hammer. At Marton on the 19th, our entries were, smaller, but the sheep sold well, the pen of fat wethers from Messrs Aitken Bros, were exceptionally good and brought the highest price this season, viz., 14/6. No improvement at either sales as regards the prices of cattle. We s°ld Mr J. R. Hammond's excellent ■ farm by auction to Mr L, M. Taverner at the price of .£lO per acre, also at and after the sale all the cattle, sheep, and horses, the former chiefly consisting of £ and J Alderneys, they brought on the whole very good prices. The wheat was passed in at 3/3. We quote :— Cattle. —Awahuri: Fat heifers, £3 to 1/6; forward cows, £2 15/- to £2 16/-; 2-year heifers, £2 10/- to £3; calves, 9/6 to 15/-. Marton: Fat cows; '£3 5/- to .£3 '12/-; fat heifers, £3 3s; 18-month steers, 20/-. Mr J. R. Hammond's: Milch cows, £2 2/- to £7; heifers, from 25/- to £3 ac r cording to age. Sheep. —Awahuri: Fat wethers, 12/2 to 13/6; forward wethers, 10/10 to 11/1; fat ewes, 9/- to 10/-; ewes in lamb, 7/- to ;9/5; dry ewes', 8/1; woolly lambs, 8/-; shorn turnip fed lambs, 7/9. Marton: Pat wethers, 14/6; ewes in lamb, 7/- to 7/4; old ewes, 4/6. Mr J. R. Hammond's : ewes in lamb, 7/1; lambs, 6/3. Horses. —Awahuri: Drafts, £12 10/---to £17 10/-; hacks, 30/- to £4 17/6. Mr J. R. Hammond's: Drafts, broken, £12 to £25 ; unbroken, £10 10/- to £13 10/-; hacks, £3 10/-to £9.
