A daring attempt was made last night to throw the Lyttelton train off the rails. 1 As the 9 p.m. train was about 100 yards from the Lyttelton end' of the mouth of 9 the tunnel, the engine crashed through a pieces of metal, known as •• chairs," maliciously placed there. Luckily the engine was slowed down, so the cut v through the chairs, which are made of cast-iron, was without difficulty.
