Monday, Jtot 18. (Before Messrs W. L. Bailey and J. 0Thompson, J.P.&) The police v. John Doyle. Defends** was charged with assaulting his wife at Awahuri on the Bth July. Mrs Doyle applied for the information to be wittidra,wn, as they had made matters up. The police v. John Coffey, of Awahuri, formerly licensed publican, was charged with selling liquor on May 26 (Sunday). Mr Cooke appeared for defendant. He, said his client had agreed to plead guilty, and informed the Bench his client had already been punished by. losing his license. - Sergt. Manning replied tQ the effect that iie Licensing Com joittee had no power to punish for the alleged offence, although they might cancel the license. Mr Cooke thought that if his client, were ordered to pay the witnesses' expenses it would meet the case. The Bench inflicted a nominal fine of 20s and costs 275. Sergt. Manning applied to have this: decision endorsed on the license of the* Endymion Hotel. • The license now in force was not produced in Court, but the Bench decided: the conviction should be endorsed in aocordanoe with thus deoisianj — --.•■*v-
