John O'Connor, M.P. for Tipperary in the course of his evidence before the Commission, admitted having heon a Fenian until 1880, but refused to disclose anything about.that society He also admitted he was cognisant of a conspiracy being arranged to murder Judge Barrett, Witness himself had been charged with participation in it. He justified the endeavours to corrupt the police, and said he considered the police were capable of hanging innocent persons, whereupon President Sir James Hannen exclaimed, " It is moral torture to listen to this man." July 11. Sir Charles Russell, loading counsel for the Parnellite party, informed the President of the Times-Parnell Commission to-day that the case for the defendants, so far as the evidence was concerned, would be closed, tomorrow.
