Feilding Borough Council
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening. Present — The Mayor, Councillors Haybittle, Fowles, "W. E. Chamberlain, Goodbehere, and T. E. Chamberlain. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. CORKKSI'ONDENCE. From Councillor F. Thompson, asking for leave of absence from the meeting. From Christchurch City Council, re gasworks. From the poundkeeper, reporting having paid over the sum of £8 2s 6d irnpoundage fees. From \V. G. Shearer and W. Reading, requesting repairs to the metal on the footpaths near their respective premises iv Manchester street. From F. Gillet, with cheque £3 13s 4d for flax. From W. L. Fetch and D P. Buchanan, asking for change of names on burgess list for section 199 to D. P. Buchanan. From J. Mackay, asking for change of name on burgess list for section 304 to F. A. Monckton. From the Finance Committee, report with accounts amounting to £30 Is Id recommended for payment. From the Public Works Committee, with accounts amounting to .£l9 2s 5d recommended for payment. Both the above reports were adopted. The letter from the Christchurch City Council was ordered to lay on the table, the Town Clerk to acknowledge the same. The request of J. Maekay, re change of name on burgess roll was discussed. Gr Goodbehere called attention to the fact that there was a vacancy in the Council caused by the absence of C* J. C. Thompson, and that these changes could only take place on a certain time after a new election. The Mayor said he had heard from Cr Thompson to the effect that he expected to be at that meeting, and he might possibly yet attend, and he thought his absence that night might very well be excused. This was agreed to by the Council. The request of W. L. Fetch and D. P. Buchanan, re change of name on roll was granted, as was also the request of J. Mackay. Cr Fowles proposed, and Cr Haybittle seconded, That the Clerk of Works have the necessary metal placed on footpath in Manchester street as requested by Messrs Shearer and Beading. — Carried. Leave of absence was granted to Cr F. Thompson. The Town Clerk reported that there were no tenders received for the supply of Charitable Aid provisions. The matter was briefly discussed several modifications were made, and it was resolved to call for tenders as per amended specifications. The Town Clerk put in a report stating on what days impounding sales would take place, notice of which would be advertised, and also published at the pound. The Mayor proposed, and Cr T. R. Chamberlain seconded, That leave of absence be granted to Cr J. C. Thompson from that meeting. A short discussion ensued, in which several Councillors objected, and the motion was lost. The Council then adjourned.
