Hawkes Bay Murder Case
(PEE UNITED FBESS ASSOCIATION) Napier, July 1. The inquest on Turanga Karauria who was shot on the 14th June, was resumed for the fourth time to-day. The Coroner has been sitting early and late, and to-night at 11 o'clock, adjourned until Friday. Moat of the evidence for the prosecution has been led. The only additional facts which have come to light tend to show that the affair was premeditated, and that a number of other Natives knew of it. Shortly before the shooting Waatara wa * on foot among a number of lirjughton Natives, in a stockyard at the opposite end of the paddock. Another Native galloped up on a horse belonging to Broughton and gave it to Waatara, who mounted it, rode to Karauria, and shot him. The other Natives meantime dispersed, except four men carrying gunsj^ho advanced to the fence of the paddocx, where the first shot was fired. Edward Broughton was examined to-day. He clii'ned the whole paddock for his people and denied the occupancy by Karauria's people, deposed to by previous witnesses.
