At the hearing of the case on the 20th May, the Public Prosecutor announced the intention of the authorities to suppress all gaming clubs. Hundreds of them exist in London. As a result of the absolute divorce I r ited to Mrs Agnes Boucicault from Dion Boucicault, the sheriff was about to seize the English copyrights of 19 of Boucicaulfc's plays and turn over the proceeds of their sale to his late wife. The seizure and sa'e, however, were restrained by an order of the Court. The village of Deuschnachan, near Sagu, Prussia, was completely destroyed by fire on 28th May. Not a house was left standing. On May 7th, before the Commission, Mr Parnell corrected his testimony of the week preceding. He said he had been misled. The faot was when he said to the Commission that Ribbonism and Ribbon Societies generally were dead, he did not refer to the conspiracies at large when he addressed the Commons. Therefore his speech stated only the truth, and he now stood by that speech. A railway train with 800 pilgrims en route to Rome was assailed by a mob at Trieste and bombarded with stones. Many persons were injured and the railway carriages badly wrecked.
