The speech made by Mr Macarthur un Thursday night was a pidiu and straightforward account of the principal eveute of last session, told iv a manner characteristic of the man. Although hig hearers were aware .that the speaker had taken a prominent part in the great transactions which have made the past session historical, yet in his speech he kept himself carefully in the back grouud, and did not allow any of that egotism to appear, which is generally too apparent when a member of Parliament is milking a post sessional address to his constituents or auy part of them. There can be no question that not only has. Mr MAOARrHUR deserved well of his eontituents, but the unanimous votes of .thanks aud confidence he has received, boih in • Palmerstou, Feildiug, and Aahurst, show that his position with the electors is a strong one, founded on a firm basis of mutual confidence.
