.*. The Manchester Rifles will parade to-morrow evening, at the Barracks, at the usual hour. Those members who de*ire to attend the Morphy contribution conceit will be allowed to leave early, but they must be punctual t) allow of this. A circular from the Defence Office informs officers commanding corps that the Infantry drill 1889 is to be taken into use at once, and when supplies of manuals are received they will be immediately issued. The promotion of Capt. Humphreys toa Colonelship in the N.Z, Militia is deservedly popular among the volunteers who fully, recognise the valuable assistance that gentleman has rendered to the organisation. In his address to his constituents -at Linwooi .Mr Loughrey, M.H.R. strongly advocated that the grant to the volunteers should be increased remarking that "the Volunteers did good service, and the name of so many armed men ready to act on the defensive would cause an enemy to pause before attacking New Zealand."
