Robbery at the Upper Hutt Railway Station
Fome time on Saturday night a particularly daring robbery took place at the Upper Hutt Railway Station, the safe kept in the station being removed holus bolus with its contents. It will be remembered that robberies have previonsly taken place at the Petone and Feildinp* stations, and the modus operandi in this cane appears to have been much the same as in the others. The safe contained about £45 in notes aud gold. Apparently the thief used the railway line for the purposes of his venture, for a trolly was found at Silverstream yesterday morning which seems to bave been employed to convey the safe down the line. The Station master, Mr Unthorn locked the station up when he left on Saturday night. Upon information of the affair being given to the police. Detective Kirby was commissioned to inquire info it, and he proeeaded to the locality by special train yesterday morning, accompanied by .\lr B. Dawson, traffic manager, and Constables Leahy and Harnetc. Up to an early hour this morning no trace of the missing property had been reported. Late last night, however, Herbert Alleudale, who recently servod a long sentence for burglary at Mr G. L Jenness' shop in Willis-street about four years ago, was arrested by Chief Detective Benjamin on suspicion of being concerned in this and the Feilding robbery. — Times
