At a largely-attended meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society resolutions were unanimously pa*>s"d protesting against the recent order compelling the tar branding of Bheep and requesting its withdrawal, at least so far Haukes Bay is concerned. It was argued that longwoola would heed brandtng every tw o months which would put sheep farmers to a great expense, while the result would be a serious deterioration in the value of the wool. One farmer who had branded some and sent the wool Home, said it brought a penny per lb less than uubranded wool ci the same type. Xi waß stated that the cause of this new order was t?i«t certain farmers near Addingtou saleyard had sheep stolen, sold, and removed, perhaps to distant parts where they could not be traped. Various speakers pointed but that any farmer who desired to use the tar brand could do so under the. Act .without an order making it compulsory ■ fen a.ll sheepowners, _
