Wreck of the s.s. Matai
(PUB PBEBB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, Jane 3. On Sunday morning the Union Company's steamer Matai struck on a rock at the Mercuiy Islands, and foundered xn ten minutes. The purser, Mr K. H. Larsen, and the forecabin steward, George Archer, were drowned. The passengers and the crew landed on Mercury Island, and were brought to Auckland by the Hinemoa. Everything on board was lost.
