Half-Mile Race at the Rink
There. was a capital attendance at the Rink on Tuesday evening, the attraction being the half-mile race for new beginners, which produced somo immense fun for the onlookers. In eeveral of tbe heats the competitors were veiy evenly matched, and the faces were very exciting ; but the most amusing part Hi every heat was the fact that two of the competitors came to grief, and in one heat th© whole three came down. Following are fche names of those who competed, and the results of the heats which were run off : —
Ist Heat. — Newman, 1 ; Foster, 2 ; Morey, 3. 2&o Heat.— Fanthorpe, 1 ; McKeague, 2; J. Belfit, 3. 3rd Heat.— R. Whisker, 1 ; Robinson, 2 ; Parr, 3. 4th Heat. — R. Bilderbeck, 1 ; McFarlane, 2 ; Young, 3. Messrs sherwill and Coleman acted as judge and 6tarter, aud gave every satisfaction. The final heats will be run off to-night in heats of two each, so those who wish to enjoy another good night's fun better not miss the chance of being present.
