Football
Notes by " Free Kick."
I am glad to see that matches have been arranged for both the first and second fifteen teams on the 24th May. The first fifteen iourneys to Turakina to try conclusions with the local team there, and the second fifteen will play the second fifteen from the Marton Club on the Oval.
The following players are therefore requested to roll up to practice on Saturday afternoon, so as to enable the match committee to pick the best players for both teams : — Keightly, HoJges, Bilderbeck, Evans, Fowler, Roake, Belfit (3), Hartgill, Halcombe, Bellve, Horsford, Iveson, Bray, Harmer, Fanthorpe, Dixon, Kitchen, Gregory, Terry, Parr (2), Lang, Whisker (3), Aitkon, Eobinson, Collins, Bailey, Campbell, F. Saywell, Corkery (2). Members who have not paid their subscriptions are requested to do so by Saturday as only those who have paid up will be selected in either of the teams.
I hope that our local players will try and adhere to the following this season, viz., play the game as it should be played in a good natured and manly spirit, taking all knocks as they come, and playing without spite or passion. Let them study the rules thoroughly, obey their captain, respect the umpires and referee, be true to themselves, and always play an unselfish game, and they will find that they will always be popular in the football field.
