Concert at Birmingham
♦— ; (fbom oxtb. own oobrespondent.) A concert, -which must be pronounced an unqualified success, was held in Mr Clark Dunn's wool shed, Birmingham, on the 24th inßtant. The buildings so kindly lent for the occasion, proved very convenient, and -was tastefully decorated with, ferns,. &c, reflecting great credit, on the artiste. The attendance wan good, in fact the building was filled to- overflowing* and perfect order was maintained throughout a long programme. The first part consisted of twelve items,, viz. : — Pianoforte duet,, by the Misses. Lowes y song, Mr "Wallace-; song, Mr& Church; reading, Mrs Templar j song,. Mrs W. Mcßeth ; song. Miss Kilgour-; recitation, Mr London j song, Miss Alice. Lowes ; duett* Messrs Sanson. and Collier j song, Miss Polly Lowes* The various items were received with. . enthusiasm, and encores were the order of the night, perhaps, the audience was a trifle too exacting in this respect. In the second part each of the performers in the first took part, with an additional song each. /from Messrs Currie and Fowles. A most successful concert waß brought to a close with the National Anthem by all the performers. Great. • credit is due to Miss Lowes for playing; - the accompaniments to nearly all the \ - eongs, a dnty performed faultlessly. ;' " Special mention must be made of Messrs • Sanson. and Collier, who travelled a long . :: distance to assist at the concert. Their duett in the first part was highly appreciated, and Mr Sanson's song ijx the part* all liore Jaoky fin* ,-
clasß. He had to submit to an encore, and on returning gave " The Little Hero" with great eftect. The Piano was kindly lent by ~Mr Lowes. Mr T. A. Bryce occupied the chair, introducing the performers to the audience. After the concert was over refreshments, with hot tea and coffee, were handed round, proving very acceptable to many who had come a distance. A dance was held after the concert, to many an enjoyable finale to a most pleasurable evening. The net proceeds of the concert and dance, about .£'l2, are to be applied by the school committee in necessary improvements to the grounds.
