As the horses entered the straight, Lochiel died away, and Carbine and Rudolph joined Russley, Melos at the same time passing Lochiel. At the distance post Carbine asserted himself, and won by half a length from Rudolph. Lochiel was last. Time, lmin 46sec. Cumberland Stakes, a sweepstake of 10 soys, with 500 soys added ; 3 miles. Mr Wallace's Carbine, Bst 21t>... ... 1 Mr Stead's Lochiel, 9st 41b 2 Hon. J. White's Abercorn, 9st 5H> ... 3 The iockeys on Carbine aud Abercorn appeared to be watching and waiting for each other, and not paying much attention to Lochiel, who field the lead. Carbine, running very gamely, crept up within the distance and won on the post by half a head from Lochiel, Abercorn being two lengths behind the latter.
