(per united press association.) Wkstpoet. April 26. A dastardly outrage took place at Cape Foulwind early this morning. A large store occupied by Ballantyne Bros., and connected with the contractors, was blown up with dynamite, and fully half of the buildings were reduced to a perfect wreck. WeiilJNgton, April 26. It was rumoured in town to-day that a well-known business man, connected with a local firm engaged in the meat trade, had left the city hurriedly, deeply involved in the business affairs of the firm. The gentleman in question was well known in athletic matters. This Day. General Edwards, who is to inspect the Defences of the Colonies, does bo at the expense of the Imperial Government. New Zealand is included in the arrangement. Two extra policemen will be sent to Westport in consequence of the dynamite explosion. The Governor will only be welcomed at the Railway Station and on his arrival will be taken at once to the portico of the Government building, and there sworn in, after which a formal reception as Governor of New Zealand will follow. The delay in carrying out the sentence of the law on the Waipiro murderer is caused by the difficulty of procuring a hangman. The man now secured for the purpose hails from this island. INapieb, April 26 Banmr and Liddle, the well kn >wa auctioneers, have been compelled to seek the protection of the Bankruptcy Court. Mokoare, charged with the murder of Gollan, at Mahia, has been committed for trial, on a double charge of murder and arson. Auckland, April 26 At the Police Court to-day Louis Paget was committed for trial on a charge of the murder of the woman Mary Aun Wilson. Mr H. Shortland appeared on behalf of the prisoner.
