The Fielding Star. SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 1889. A Warning to Sheep Farmers
As tens of thousands of sheep are driven annually from Hawkes Bay to this coast, the following paragraph from the Napier Telegraph should receive the careful attention of our local sheep farmsrs, because the seed of this most objectionable plant is easily conveyed and distributed in new country by the wool on the sheep : "An ugly looking plant, found growing near Hastings, was brought to the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's rooms last week by Mr W. Beilby, he thinking that it might be the Bathurst burr. A portion of it was submitted to Mr Hamilton, of the Athenasum, who prouounees it to be, without doubt, xavthiwm sjn'nosum, commonly called the ' Bathurst burr.' " Sheepfarmers, aud thbir employes, should keep a sharp look out for growing plauts or weeds which are not familiar to them, and at once have any that are dangerous eradicted.
