Waituna Notes
(FROM OUR OWN tfOHRBSPOITDENT.] The splendid weather we are having has enabled those settlers in the Waituna a^d Waitapu Blocks who had buah -burned this season, to be busy.flbwing their .grass seed. Some of the burns we^-upt very good, the best being those which were started in Marph. This was rather risky, owing to the gales, blowing about that time, but the welcome rain which followed I the wind prevented much damage, I and at the same time has given the grass a fine start. Mr Howe, of Waituna, has sold out to Mr W. Baker, of Makino, at a satisfactory figure. The block contains 400 acres. It looks as if .the raising of grass seed has become a permanent industry here. Messrs Benseman and Benson have constructed a winnowing machine for that purpose, and they are turning out fine samples of seed) which is a source of satisfaction to the builders. This district is going ahead fast, and will be further aided by the fact of the contractors for Williamson's j road have commenced operations, and are making a good job of it. Messrs Bphson and Camplin are fencing in the front of their several properties, and Mr Sam Seddit has purchased or leased the section opposite the Beaconsfield Post Office. The attendance of children at the State School is small, just now, owing to the prevalence of whooping cough among them.
