In the course of an interview to-day. Lord Onslow said he looked to the Imperial Naval armaments as to the primary requisite dafence of the colonies, and to the local forces as a valuable anxiliary, but thinks the contention of the Admiralty is that when the colonies get their new navy they will have a line of defence wi;h which no country dare interfere. At the Supreme Court to-day fire young men named Mack, Young, Tower, Lewis, and Mahoney, charged with having committed perjury in the evidence given by them in connection with the charge of murder apainst Cutler, acquitted of killing a Chita run, have be(n sentenced to uire years' imprisonment with hard labour. In sentencing the prisoners his Honor the Judge said the conspiracy was oue of the worst character ever brought under notice.

A man entered a jeweller's shop in Bourke street, snatched up a tray containing a number of rings valued at £800 and made his escape.
