The ChiVf Surveyor, Mr Ti Huifaphrev, has receive 1 notice of his removal to Auckliiud, whe.e he will take charge. H j has been connected with the ourvey Department in thiß district for thirty-two years. John Elliot, who came in from Mokau on Sunday,, reports coming across a piebald horse with saddle and bridle, and a tether rope attached to the saddle, without a rider, close to the mouths of the Mokaik- river. It has been ascertained a young man named Urry, who was expected at Awakino flax mill, had not turned up and it is surmised in trying to cross the river he has been swept fr6m his horse and drowned. Inquiries are being ma4e.
