The rain yesterday has caused the rivers to rise and & portion of the town is flooded in some of the streets lying a little low. The water is knee deep down by the Government|offices, and it is almost impossible to cross the street except in vehicles.

Knox and Ridler's flour mill at Hamilton was destroyed by fire this morning. InBured in the New Zealand for £500 on building, and ±500 on stock.
Wellington, March 22
The Minister of Justice and Defence estimates his expenditure during the year will be within the rotes. The cost of the Te Kooti expedition was all defrayed out of current revenue.
At the annual dog show to-day there is said to be a larger number of exhibits than at any previous show in the Colony, 268 All classes are well represented, particularly fox terriers and colliers.

At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company a dividend of 7 per cent was declared, and £188 carried forward to the new account.

A man named Duncan Gilchnst was charged at the B.M. Court to-day with attempting to shoot a farmer named John McDonald, living at Otepo. No evidence was taken, the accused being remanded.
