William Harkness was to-day committed for trial on a charge of stealing £64 m notes from T. McKenzie, a cook at Mangatoro station.
Auckland, March 15
The man Michael MoDermot was charged at the Supreme Court to-day with man -slaughter of Kate Kennedy. Mr J. A. Tole set up a plea of insanity. The case had not concluded when the court rose. A woman named Maher was found dead in her house this morning. A man unknown advertised last week for a lady help for the country, and inveigled a girl to a lonely spot near Riverhead on Saturday night, and attempted a criminal assault. He kept her all night in an old hut and next morning allowed her to go. The man Taylor alias Cowley, charged with assault at Riverhead, was arrested to-night. Woodvillb, This Day. Yesterday afternoon the body of a man named Jas. Clark was found in a small stream near Woodville. Deceased had stripped and left his clothes on the main road, and threw himseff into the stream in two feet of water. He was evidently suffering from the effects of a drinking bout. An inquest was held last night, when the verdict was " found drowned." Wellington, This Day. A joint deputation of City Council and Chamber of Commerce waited on the Premier this morning. He expressed himself favorable to the extension of the railway to the Te Aro end of the town Gbeymouth, March 15. Several very bad cases of diptheria exist here.
