Charitable Aid Board
A meeting of the Wanganui Charitable Aid Board was held at Wanganui on Wednesday last. Present — Messrs Arkwright (chair), Neill, Sanson, Nathan, Higgie, Edwards (Palmerston North), Paterson, Hunter, Remington, Death, Adams, and Dr Monckton,
The Feilding Borough Council forwarded a statement showing the amount paid by it from April to De«. cember for charitable aid — £55 3s 6d in money, £2 2s lOd railway fares, £8 lis medical attendance.
Dr Monckton and Mr Sanson reported on their visit to Palmerston to inquire into the cost of charitable aid. The Committee were in favor of Palmerston North having a cottage hospital. Since October the ration system bad been adopted, and it is though^ the outlay will be reduced one half, especially if increased vigilance is exercised. — Report adopted.
The following among other local bodies are rated. — Manawatu, £74 10/10; Manawatu Road District, £61 17/1 ; Manchester, £57 13/11 ; Kiwitea, £28 16/8; Halcombe, £2 2/6; Feilding Borough, £14 6/8.
