It is said to he highly probable, says the Ohristchurch Press, that after h .ail there will he an encampment for vuluuteers at Easter. The Defence Department is stated to be fully ahye to the fact that the Volunteer Corps, outof;the present capitation, areunab c to hear the expenses of a camp, and steps will, it is said, be taken to meet them. 7 The team of the Manchester Rifles left this morning' by train to fire against the Marton Royal Rifles. The latter were desirous of having the watch postponed, but as the Manchester men had made all their arrange incuts, their Match Committee could not consent. Some members of the team live 8 or 10 miles away and the notice was too short to allow of them being warned not to come down, (per united press association.) Wanganui February 28. Captain Soiumerville, chairman of the N.Z.R.A., has received a letter from the Union Company to the effect that the Southerners will be taken from Christchurch to Picton. for the Blenheim shooting for 30s return, and Northerners for 10s return from Picton to Wellington, on tin- condition that the company get the whole of the men.
