In cross-examination before the Commission, Pigott. admitted that tfhe statements he had made in his letter to Arch, bishop Walsh were entirely unfoundedandthat he had told Houston that the Parnell letters were possibly forgeries ... He further stated that he had written to Forster, Irish Secretary in 1881, asking for £15,000 for services tendered to the Government, -and admitted writing to Egan at the same time, asking for JJSOO to stop publication of a pamphlet damag- : ' ing to the League.
