The Samoan Difficulty
By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright fPEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Sydnbt, Febiuary 14. The s.B, Lubeck has arrived from the Islands, with Samoan dates to February 6th. The various consuls were anxiously awaiting definite instructions. Mr Klein had been compelled to go on board the American man-of-war Nipsic for safety. The German seamen wounded in the firfht with Mataafa are progressing favourably. Every vessel belonging to Samoans, and also the police, have been placed under German control, Mataafa is strengthening his position, and forming paths through the bush, to enable supplies to be easily obtained. The German authorities have reoalled Mr Branders. February 15. News by the steamer Lubeck from Samoa states that a Samoan named Sali has been arrested for causing the tire at the consulate, the damage being estimated at 100,000 dollars. The number of followers of Tamasesse is rapidly decreasing, and unless Germany goes to his assistance it is believed that those remaining will quietly return to their homes leaving Mataafa master of the position without a shot being fired.
