V The Manchester Rifles paraded for inspection on Friday last- There was a full attendance of officers and men. The company was drilled and instructed by Sergt.-Major Macmillan, and, considering the number of recruits in the ranks, acquitted themselves very creditably. Capt. PJeasants warned the men that there was too much talking in the ranks at times, but with more experience no doubt that habit would be discontinued. Acting-Lieutenant Chamberlain gave notice that fie would apply to the Officer Commanding the District for permission to withdraw his resignation. This announcement was received with applause. Sergt. Fowles and Corpl. Milson were elected members of the Finance Committee. ;.;. ''. v New uniforms for recruits will be ready before Easter. The match between a team selected from the corps, and a team of ex-volun-teers came off on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the former, who have now been twice victorious over their challengers. We may state, however, that the latter, were under some disadvantage, as one of their .best men, Mr C. Bull, had not received notice that he was to fire, and therefore did not put in an appearance. The following are the scores : — Manchester Rifles.
