At the auctions to-day only 75 casks were sold. The present quotations are— best mutton 30s, best .beef 29*. The English wheat market is improving Continental remains firm, and American is steady; for Australian new crop, onpaiwage, 38 ia asked; for Kg" .Zealand ditto. 365; Austrakan flour, 206; peas,47s3d. At the woolsales increased eagerness is shown by buyers, and the biddings are brisk. The advance is general, crossbreds being in especial demand. Up to date 144,000 bales have been catalogued, of which i 28,000 have been sold. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Aeency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London London office, Idated .9th instant :— Wool .-Competition is increasing, -and market i« firmer.
