" Let Dogs Delight "

uur esteemed contemporaries, the Marton Advocate and the Manawatu Times, aye snarling at each other over a bone of contention, which has been thrown to them by a few Bunny thorpe settlers who want a railway. The trouble has arisen from the fact that at one time a line of railway was projected from the Gorge, to connect with the line at Bunnythorpe. For reasons beßt known to themselves the Government saw fit to make the connection at Palmerston instead, and within the last few months tenders have been invited for the work. Such being the caoe it would strike anyone — unless he was looking for a cause of quarrel — that it is now too late to re-open the question. We are perfectly alive to the enormous advantages which would have accrued to this settlement had the connection been made at Buunythorpe, and many of our readers will remember that the Emigrant and Colonists Aid Corporation offered to find men and money to make the said line, but the Government of the day — although suffering from a depletion in the treasury chest— in point of fact, being as poor as church mice — refused at the last moment to accede to a request that would have been an indirect profit to the whole colony. All discussion is now futile, and a mere beating of the air. We cordially sympathise with those who purchased lands on the proposed line, and in the township of Bunnythorpe, and who were undoubtedly the victims of gross deception, but we fear their injuries are now beyond redress.
