Kiwitea Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting of th> above was held on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Williamson, Haythorne, and Lucas.
In the absence of the chairman Mr Williamson presided. .The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Clerk reported having given an order for James Healey to go to the Wanganui hospital, and his action was approved of by the Board. Correspondence was read and dealt with seriatim as foDows : —
From W. Breedon, offering to lease a portion of Government reserve on the Rangitikei river.
The Clerk was to write to the Crown Lands Office on the subject.
From the District Lands Office re proposals for expending thirds on the Birmingham Block. The Clerk to write to the effect that the Government must deal direct with the Association, as the Board could do nothing in the matter.
From Thomas Shorthall, asking for a refund of deposit on contract.
The matter to pend certain arrangements by the Engineer.
From J, Jeffries, asking for improvements to be made in the road leading from Feilding block township to certain sections. From Colonial Treasurer's Office, requesting payment to bank of ;£49 4s interest.
The Clerk to write on the subject for necessary information. From H. Kruse, agreeing to let the Board have the land required for the deviation of Terrace road. — Carried.
From Public Works Office, Wanganui, re vesting in the Board of boundary road between the Board's district and Manchester Road district, and asking for tracing of same. The Clerk reported having replied and forwarded tracing. From 39 members of Feilding Small Farm Association, a petition asking the Board to apply for deferred thirds now due to the Association, and expend the same on works referred to in petition. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the Clerk put in the application as requested and ask the Government to supplement another .£l5O if the Board see their way to spend it on the road through the Government land leading to the Feilding Small Settlement, and that Mr Macarthur, M.H.R.» be written to, asking him to support the request. — Carried. From the Auditor-General's Office, with the Board's balance sheet certified to.
From the Public Works Office, a circular re the proposed abolition of the Public Works Department, and future communications to be sent to the Minister of Lands.
Resolved, That the Waste Lands Board be communicated with, requesting sanction to expend .£4O on Benson's road, arid JJI9 on Williamson's road formation.
Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That tenders be called for one mile of metalling in Zigzag road, starting from Valley road, also for taking down batter on Taonui road from Brown's woolshed to Finnis road, tenders be in by next meeting. — Carried. Tenders for works were opened, and the following were accepted :— Trimming about 80 chains of bridle track on Oroua Valley road, J. Carmody £1 3s 9d per chain. Making about 80 chains of bridle track on Mcßeth's road, Pincent and Klink, £68 14s 6d. Bushfelling, clearing, and making about 72 chains of bridle track on Junction road, T. O'Haggerty £1 7s per chain. Supply and delivery of about 150 cubic yards of metal on Kimbolton road, J. Belfit 3s 6d per yard. After passing accounts for payment the Board adjourned.
