Anmversary Day in Wellington

Wrlmnstow, January 22. The 49th Anniversary of the Province was observed as a general holiday, the the weather being beautiful. The principal attraction was the regatta, for which there was a braze blowing, but towards the evening it died away; and was almost a calm. In the First- Class Yacht Race, the Florence came m first, but had to allow the Girola, the second boat, thirty minutes's time allowance, the result being a dead heat. The first sports under the auspices of the recently-ap-pointed Amateur Athletic dab was attended by about 1000 people. The 120 Yards Hurdle (amateur championship) was won by H. W. Bater, with W. J. Moir (Canterbury) 2ndv and <J. Hume 3rd. Time, 17sec, which is the amateur record for the colony. ' g. •■■■ ,■— ," •
