Cricket DANEVIRKE v. FEILDING.
The match yesterday between the Danevirke team ana. the local team resulted in a win for the visitors. The day was everything that could be desired, and although the attendance of the public was not so good as might have been wished, there was a fair sprinkling of interested spectators of both sexes. There was some very good play on both sides, but the Feilding men seemed very unlucky, and the number of " ducks' eggs " would have filled a market basket. The following are the scores : — Feilding. Ist Innings — 2nd Innings Wrightson, b Greig ... 3 b Haywood ... 1 Pratt, b Haywood 0 b Greig ... 14 Benson, c Gray... 0 Halcombe, b Haywood ... 1 b Greigh ... 0 Lance,b Haywood 8 c Henderson ... 9 Sherwill, b Greig 0 b Henderson ... 10 Stevens, c Gordon 4 not out ... 6 Fetch, b Greig ... 0 c Buck ... 0 Simpson, c Greig 3 b Henderson ... 0 Millan, not out ... 0 c Greig ... 5 A Pringle, b Haywood ... 0 b Greig ... 4 J Pringle, b Greig 1 b Greig ... 0 Howell, sub Benson, lbw Haywood ... 5 Leg byes ... 4 Wides ... 3 No balls ... 2

L. Sherwill, the local captain, called for three cheers for the visitors, which were heartily given. Mr Haywood, on the part of the visitors, said they would be glad to meet the Feilding men at Danevirke. Anytime they liked to go over a team would be got together to play them. He called for cheers from his men, who responded manfully. The incidents of the match were few. Mr Benson was placed hors de combat in the first innings, hurting his hand, and Mr Howell took his place in the second innings. The latter was given out ' 'leg before wicket" in error by the umpire, but as he should have been out the previous ball he received, and was'nt, the matter was considered squared. Mr Lance made a splendid hit for six, and when he retired was deservedly applauded from the " pavilion." The local men, taking them all round, were quite as good as their opponents; but, as we saidbefere, luck was dead against them. A little more practice would do a vast amount of good, and if they do not want to occupy a back seat all the time, they will have to commence pretty soou. In the evening the visitors were the guests of the local team, and a very enjoyable impromptu smoke concert was held at the Denbigh Hotel, when everybody present had " a good time."
