The Hobson Rifles have been disbanded in consequence of the stringency of the new regulations, and other corps are expected to follow suit, Dunedin, January 15. In the Supreme Court, Mrs Margaret Cairns sued James Stevenson, a member of the Hussar troop, for injuries austaiued through being knocked down and ran over in Kattray — street on the occasion of the night alarm. The jury awarded her £50 damages. In the Supreme Court, divorce division. Thomas Henry Bis, oompositor, petitioned for a divorce from his wife, Mary Elizabeth Bix, John Livingstone being the cor- respondent. The wife had gone to Melbourne m the Te Anau, and it was proved she and Livingstone travelled as man and wife. A decree nisi was granted with costs against the corespondent. j Wellington, January 16. The annual voting of the city for rating purposes shows an increase of £22,320 for general purposes, and £21,492 for water rate. The new valuation will, if the present rates are re-imposed, yield £3000 increased revmme. The criminal returns show an increase of 123 cases for the year. This Day. A deputation of the Chamber of Commerce waited on the Minister of Justice to-day, urging several amendments m the Bankruptcy Act, and laid special stress on the point that the term " proper books and accounts" should be defined as cash book, day book, and ledger.
