Mr Sewell , the American Consul at Samoa, who has beeu examined at a secret sitting of the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives, stated that if it was uot intended to yield to Germany the control of the group, the Groat Powers must take immediate and decided action. Berlin, January 12. The German press asserts that steps are beiug taken to restore order in Samoa. London, January 14. Despatches of an exceedingly bitter nature are passing between the Government of Germany and the United States in reference to the Sarnoan difficulty, and great excitement prevails in diplomatic circles regarding the outcome of the quarrel.
