The Recent Tornado in America

By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. (PEB UNITED PBBBS ASSOCIATION) New Yobk, January 12. It is estimated that the damage done at Niagara by the recent tornado will amount to 1, 000, 000 dols. Washington, January 12. Fourteen bodies were recovered from one building in Pittsburg. The damage to the Beading railway amounts to 80,000 dols. One hundred persons were recovered alive, but more or less injured from the ruins of the silk mill, del stroyed at Beading. It is feared that a steamer, conveying naval officers from San Francisco to More Island, will have been caught in the gale. ° Further particulars show that the tornado took an easterly path, covering a track of only 200 feet in width through the Mates ot Ohio, Pennsvl. vania, New Jersey, and New York. Besides those killed many thousands of people were injured. Beading railway station was raxed to the ground and set on fire. Telegraphic communication was in. terrupted in all directions, and wow and rain followed the cyclone. Three gasometers in Brooklyn ex ploded and threw the city into partial darkness, and damage was done to the extent of half a million dollars. The explosion is supposed to be due to the electrical disturbance consequent on the tornado.
