The Wanganui Hospital

D»R MONCKTON'S OPINION.

At the Hospital Board meeting oa Thursday Dr Moncktoa stated that hehad paid a surprise visit to the Hospital the night before,, and, co far as the* accommodation permitted, no possiblefault could be found. There were,, however r some serious things- to be? considered, and one of these days thematter of a new Hospital would have? to be dealt with. The building is onlycapable of holding 24> patients, and this w supposed to represent the requirements of a district extending; from the Patea district to Foxton. It. was evident to anyone acquainted with the requirements that sufficient accommodation is not furnished- Luckily at present a large number of cases,, though chrome, were capableof spending their time in the open air, but if they were really surgieak eases and* confined to bed the Hospital would* simply becoute a hot bed of typhoid! fever. The rooms do bo* contain the* necessary cubic- eonteets to- staintaiik patients without the air becomingdangerously fetid. The aeeouunodation tor the staff was quite inadequate. The woman sleep dose ander an irout TM>f, so close that he could touch theeeittng with his. bead, and the room could not t>e properly ventilated , . The> bath for females he fouikd was not. provided with a ho! •water pipe, and he would move that this be remedied; at ouce.

Mr Rβ uamgtoo said be was. glad to> think tie should have the soppurt of Dγ Monckton and his- liearty eo>-opera-tion when he agaia brought up the«question of a new Hospital,. wbieh> heiuie.ded to do uefore long. Theopinions of a medical man such as Dγ Monckton were of great value in discussing this question, and bis suggestions would be welcome.

Mr Nathan seconded the motion for another hot - water pipe, and Mr Walker said it was evident that th» matter of a new Hospital altogether would have to be settled very shortly. The motion was carried, and the Board adjourned.—Herald.
