The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 1889. Artesian Wells
Everybody knows that artesian wells are made by perforating the ground with a small bore until water is reached, which, when that is effected will, in consequence of internal pressure, spring up spontaneously like a fountain. In this connection Mr Car--SCHEW publishes a letter to-day in which he throws out a suggestion to the effect that some efforts should be made to secure the boon these wells undoubtedly are, to Feilding. Mr CarXHEW is a man of large experience in matters of this kind, and his opinion '• that we have as good a show as Christchurch for artesian welld" deserves every respect at the hands of his fellow citizens. If the experiment were made, and success followed it, the advantages would be inestimable, vv'e invite correspondence on the question as we think too much cannot be written or said in connection therewith. The principal points to discuss are — the probable cost of the work and how to raise the money to meet that cost. The desirablem *s goes without sayiug, and therefore requires no discu&sion.
