(per united press association.) Auckland, January 4. A man named Launcelot, at Newton, attempted suicide by jumping 25 feet from a bridge into the river, and stuck in water and mud four feet deep. He was soon rescued uninjured. Wanganui, January 4. The boy John Bason, summoned, by his father for stealing apples, came before the Court to-day, and pleaded guilty. The Magistrates dismissed the charge, saying the boy ought not to plead guilty, as no felony was committed. It has been decided to put " The Mikado " on at the Theatre for the race week in March. Mr J. Spakeß has obtained the services of some of the Wellington cast to assist.
