Feilding Boxing Day Sports
The showers which fell the night hefore had the effect of making the uiurniug of Boxing - Day bright ani clear, besides rendering the turf on (in Oval fresh and elastic fur the runnen. The people began to assemble early, aud as tho trains disgorged freight, while buggies, .traps, jfjrakea, and vehicles of all description coiir tributed their loads,, it was evident ! that tbe attendance was- going to he ! larger thau ou any previous occasion. , By noon some fifteen or sixteen hundred men, women, and children were assembled, and tbe lawn looked re* ! inarkably well with the crowds of well dressed and handsome ladies walking ab'jut or lounging on the bright greeu grass. The booths, under the supervision of Messrs Summers & Co. and J. Smith were well patronised, while tbe "lawful games" did good business. A new and pleasing feature was presented by a lady vocalist, who sang no end of songs, and appeared to reap a rich harvest in returu.
