(PEH UNITED PRKSS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, December 17. The old-established Auckland firm of E. and A. Isaacs, merchants, filed a petition in bankruptcy to-day. The inquest on the remains of Kate Kennedy, who was shot on Friday- uig-ht, was held to-day. The jury returned a verdict " tbat the deceased died from a gunshot wound inflicted by Michael McDermott." Wanganui, December 17. At Turakina on Sunday B. E. Campbell, Native interpreter, received the discharge m his arm, and had to come into town to have it extracted. Fortunately for him it mißsed an artery by about a quarter of an inch. Rev Chapman, of Welling^ n, is to be curate for the Parish of Wanganui at a salary for the first year of Ll5O. Dcnedin, December 17. George Chapman, a gardener, while working- on Saturday, was discovered in an unconscious condition, and died on Sunday without recovering. He was in rather poor heal) h. Among the deputations to the Premier was one regarding the duty on pictures sent out gratuitously for advertising purposes, it being stated that the cards were not worth a farthing. The Premier said in that case there would be no difficulty, and it would be much better for them not to come in. The Government had no wish to injure trade, but were bound to see the duty levied. CHBmcHUBCH, December 17. Articles of agreement was signed to-day between Harry Dunn and George Robertson for a five- style wrestling match, to be held at Wanganui on the 19th January, for LIOO a side. LSO a aide is already deposited. The balance is to be paid on the night before the match. Charles Chevannes is stakeholder. A forfeit is to be paid in case of default.
