Melbourne, December 11, The Age to-day asserts that the depression in general business has reached an acute stage, amounting in some departments of trade to an absolve paralysis of operations. The Cabinet has decided to ask Parliament for a new loan in addition to tbe two millions already authorised, which will be floated shortly. The money is required for public works. Owing to the demand at Rodney for water to fill the dams, irrigation has been suspended in the district. December 12, Government have announced that they propose to borrow four millions in January or February next, inclusive of the two million loan already authorised. At the Exhibition a large figure representing Atlas supporting the Globe fell with a tremendous crash. Fortunately few people were about and no one was injured, though several exhibits were damaged. Sydney, December 11. The weather at Wilcannia is intensely hot, and an enormous number of sheep are dying while travelling to water. A violent storm of wind and rain at Inverell this evening levelled the convent and unroofed a large number of buildings, doing serious damage. Hobabt, December 12. Harvest prospects are becoming daily more gl oiny. AncLA.-DE, December 12. , Horse fever has broken out in the nortnern districts, aud a large number of farms are quarantined.
