FeUding School Committee

The School Committee met last evening. Present — Messrs Watts (Chairman), Worsfold, Curtis, J. C. Thompson, Reading, and Ranger. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirrnod. CORRESPONDENCE . From Private Secretary to Minister of Education, circular, with copies of statement of amounts expended on school buildings since the coming into operation ofthe Education Act, 1877. From Secretary to Education Board as follows : — " The Chairman, — I have the honor, by direction of the Board, to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 19th instant, nnd hi reply to state that the following resolution was passed at the last meeting of the Board—' That the Secretary's letter of the 9th October had been written under a misapprehension of his instructions, the Board not havmg deputed Mr Sanson to confer with the Committee respecting the Head Teacher. The Board, while recognising the necessity for a change with the mastership of the school, were desirous of allowing Mr Dowling either to resign or to be transferred to another school, and it was with this object that Mr Sanson was requested to see Mr Dowling personally. Further, the Board propose to appoint a new master, after consultation with the Committee, to take charge after the Christmas vacation. I may add that Mr Dowling has since sent in his resignation to me, which has been accepted.— A. A. Browne, Secretary." From same, a memo re a report from Mr Fry on the repairs wanted at the Head Teacher's residence, and authorising the Committee to have the work done under Mr Fry's supervision. From Mr Dowling, resigning his position as Head Teacher of the school. _ From Miss M. A. Lightbown, resigning her position of first Assistant Teacher. From Miss L. C. Cleary, asking for a change from the teachership of the infant department to that of Standard I. Resolved, That the resignations of Miss Lightbown and Mr Dowling be accepted. This was all the business.
