Owing to the Awahuri Hack meeting having fallen through, the Feilding ' Jockey Club have acted very wisely in deciding to hold a Hack meeting on the day on which the Awahuri Club used to run their races. A capital programme, consisting of eight items, has been set down- for decision during the day. The total amount to be given away is £115, which will sure to attract very large ■ fields. The Club could not have selected a better day, the Palmerston races coming off the day before, the Marton Hack meeting the day following, ( and then comes the Rangitikei meeting on the Ist and 2nd of January. In addition to the Rangitikei races on the Ist January, the Woodville and Otaki Clubs hold their Hack meetings on that date, which will sure to attract a. number of horses that will take part at the Feildiug meeting. "With a fine day I feel certain the Feilding Hack meeting will be one of the most successful ever held on the course. There is no doubt the attendance will be very large on account of it being the day after the Sports as well as the Palmerston races. I beg to remind owners of looal horses that the annual Willow Bank races will be held on the 1 5 th December. The programme, which has been approved of by the Wanganui Club, is comprised of five events, viz : Hurdlesi £6'; Maiden, £5; Stakes, £8; J?lyisgt ..'-fi 6 > ati< -* a Forced Baud-cap. Nominations close on 6th December. - 1 1, learn that the racecourse has quite &> busy looking appearance of a morn- : ihg f now /before breakfast. No less thah nine and. ten horses are to be seen getting put through their usual preliminaries in view of the forthcom- ! ''ing. Hack, meeting. This is as it ought to be, and I hope the number •will. be doubled before a couple of _- i The nominations for the Palmerston ; os Boxing Day are anything but tttisfftctoiy, which if, nodo&bfr, !
owing to so many race meetings being held elsewhere on that day. Mick O'Brien, the rider of Mentor in the Melbourne Cup, received £2500 3 from the owner. . In the settling up of tho V.R.C. i meeting, Mr J. Marshall, of New I Zealand, the owner of Necklet and 1 Pearlsbell, received £2272. Carbine's I winnings amounted to £961, for which Mr * ''Brien is credited with .£404, and , the N.Z. Stud Co. with the balance, [ owing to them having nomiuated him i for the Foal Stakes. Necklet is the first of the progeny of Musket that ever competed iv a Maribyrnong Plate. ' A horse owner to objects to committee handicapping.— Major George again has a grievance with the Auckland Racing Club. Because the handicaps for the second day's racing were made by a committee of the Club he would not condescend to run his horses or even put in an appearance on the course. — Auckland Observer. I must congratulate our local cricketers on their win on Saturday, which was a very creditable one indeed, considering tbe stand they made against the same team last season. " Maxim's" wishes are that they may be as successful as the football team was.
