About 5 this evening the Sydenhnm Salvation Army barracks and the officers quarters with a cottage belonging to Tbomas Dovin situated in Batterseantreet, were burned down. The barracks was of wood with an iron roof, and was erected three years ago, and would Beat 700 people. Alexander Watson, a painter, at Ban* giora. and his son, had a narrow escape in the Ashley this morning. The river was high, and they were crossing at the upper ford in a trap when the horse got into a quicksand, and, in Us struggle, overturned the vehicle. The occupants were swept down the river, and the boy managed to grasp Watson, who with great difficulty swam with him to a spot from which they reached th» bank.
